The varicose veins in the female legs are treated surgically. It is possible to use minimally invasive procedures designed to occlude dilated veins. Most often, sclerotherapy is used for this purpose. But most women don’t want to see a doctor, much less want to go under a knife. They prefer to treat varicose veins at home.
How to treat at home?
It is impossible to cure varicose veins at home. Although conservative treatment is used, it does not reverse the pathological process and does not improve the woman’s condition in the long run. Objectives of home treatment:
- reducing the symptoms of varicose veins;
- reducing the likelihood of complications;
- slowing the progression of pathology;
- improving the quality of life.
At home, a woman can use medicines from the pharmacy, folk remedies, compression clothing. It is possible to use procedures that reduce the severity of symptoms and adhere to work and rest hygiene, which allows for some improvement in quality of life.
Recommended procedures for home use:
- cold and hot showers;
- lying with raised legs;
- baths with salt or soda, herbal decoctions;
- massage;
- physical exercises.
It is possible to use compression clothing - stockings or golf. They narrow the lumen of the veins, fully or partially compensating for the malfunction of the venous valves.
How to treat with medication?
There are several drugs available to treat varicose veins. Different drugs have different functions. It is advisable to discuss their reception with your doctor, because the dose, duration of treatment, the combination of drugs are selected based on your health condition and the stage of varicose veins.
Women can use the following groups of drugs at home:
- Phlebotonics.The compositions are mainly of plant origin, which increase the tone of the venous walls after oral or dermal application, thereby narrowing the lumen of the blood vessels. They have a temporary effect lasting several hours. Tablets are more effective than ointments.
- Antioxidants (vitamins E, C, alpha-lipoic acid)It is used to improve tissue trophism. These drugs are needed to slow down the destructive processes in the tissues due to a violation of their blood supply.
- Platelet aggregation inhibitors.Medicines that reduce the chance of blood clots forming. Generally, low doses of acetylsalicylic acid are used for this purpose. Drugs in this group also have anesthetic and decongestant effects.
- Anticoagulants.It is applied to the skin in the form of a gel. These are medicines containing heparin. It reduces the likelihood of blood clots forming.
How to treat with pills?
Basically, pills used to treat varicose veins in women are venotonics. All of these pills are toxic to the stomach, so:
- the treatment process should be limited;
- tablets should not be taken in case of peptic ulcer or gastritis;
- the dose should be checked by a doctor;
- the tablets should only be taken after a meal.
It is recalled that varicose veins cannot be cured with pills. It is used only to relieve the symptoms of the disease.
How do we deal with folk remedies?
Treating most diseases with folk remedies is a futile idea. But this does not apply to varicose veins in women’s feet. The fact that almost all pharmacies sold in this pharmacy are of plant origin. Therefore, you can use herbs or foods that contain the same active ingredients as in medicines.
It should be borne in mind that the treatment of varicose veins with folk remedies has several disadvantages compared to the use of pharmacy drugs:
- There is no way to adjust the dose. Therefore, there will be a higher risk of side effects and a lower chance of reducing the symptoms of varicose veins.
- Time consuming process. You will need to prepare the decoctions or infusions on your own, which will take a lot of time and effort.
- It tastes bad. Obviously, it is more pleasant to swallow a tablet than to drink a dose of stinky broth or alcoholic tincture. The external application of folk remedies is not always effective, moreover, it is not always pleasant due to the specific smell that spreads in the house.
More or less effective folk methods:
- The use of grape or chestnut infusions and decoctions - allows you to increase the tone of the vessel wall. More effective when taken orally. Topical application is unlikely to significantly affect the course of varicose veins.
- Local use of heating agents (camphor oil, horseradish, pepper). Reduces swelling, pain, relaxes muscles.
- Inside willow bark decoction. It contains acetylsalicylic acid, which has an analgesic effect and reduces blood clotting, reducing the risk of blood clots.
Ineffective folk remedies for varicose veins (not worth trying):
- decoctions of most plants: burdock, wormwood, comfrey, acacia;
- food compresses: beets, potatoes, honey;
- rituals, spells, prayers, conspiracies can and do help someone, but their effectiveness has not been clinically proven.
As with medication, alternative therapy is exclusively symptomatic. That is, the tools you use do not cure anything, they only reduce the clinical manifestations of varicose veins, improving your quality of life.
Output
The main methods of treating varicose veins are sclerotherapy and surgery. It is impossible to restore pots to their previous appearance. Home treatment is possible, but it does not aim at a complete cure of the disease, but at improving the woman's quality of life, reducing symptoms, slowing down the development of varicose veins, and preventing complications. Home treatment is done with treatments, compression garments, pills, or folk remedies.
